In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Malampaya Foundation, Inc. (MFI) recognized outstanding partners and beneficiaries through its special 20X20 Awards, highlighting excellence in marine conservation, community protection, sustainable enterprise, and education.

When El Nido was hit directly by Typhoon Tino on November 5, the municipality bore the brunt of the storm’s destructive path. Strong winds and heavy rains left widespread damage not only in El Nido but also in nearby municipalities, including Linapacan and Taytay.

Three conservation partner sites of the Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) earned national recognition at the 2025 Para El Mar Awards, securing 1st and 2nd place in the Locally-Managed Marine Protected Area (MPA) category and a special citation for enforcement excellence.

Five (5) of the nine (9) finalists in this year’s Para El Mar Awards – Locally-Managed Marine Protected Area Category are conservation partner sites that we have supported since 2013.

As part of our livelihood skills training program, around 70 tour guides in Coron and El Nido, Palawan successfully completed their Level 2 Tour-Guiding Accreditation in partnership with the Department of Tourism – MIMAROPA and the Municipal Tourism Offices of Coron and El Nido. Conducted on August 11–17 and August 25–31, 2025, the training enhanced participants’ competencies in professional guiding, safety standards, environmental stewardship, and visitor engagement.

More than 120 youths from different coastal municipalities of Oriental Mindoro were educated and enjoined in this year’s Environmental Youth Action Camp (EYAC) held annually by Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) and marine conservation partners provincial government agriculture office, municipal governments, and the provincial Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Active community bantay dagats (volunteer sea rangers) in conservation-partner sites of Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) in north Palawan, Oriental Mindoro and Batangas city received their rice sacks as part of their incentives in playing a key role in protecting marine protected areas (MPAs)/marine management zones of their communities.

El Nido, Palawan-- Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) renewed yesterday, June 4, 2025, conservation agreements with eleven (11) partner communities in the municipalities of Taytay, El Nido and Linapacan to continue marine biodiversity conservation partnership grassroots work that started as far back as 2013-2016 in the different areas, including support to two National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) sites: the Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape (MSPLS) and the El Nido Managed Resource Protected Area (ENMRPA).
