In 2002, the Malampaya Deepwater Gas to Power project was awarded the World Summit Business Award for Sustainable Development Partnership at the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The accolade was endowed by the United Nations Environmental Program and the International Chamber of Commerce in recognition of Malampaya’s careful balance of the social, environmental and economic components in the course of development.
In December 2005, the Malampaya Joint Venture partners, composed of Shell Philippines Exploration B.V., Chevron Malampaya LLC and the PNOC-EC, formed the Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) to serve as its social arm and to strengthen commitment in making significant contributions toward community-based sustainable socio-economic development and marine environment conservation. The foundation’s main thrust is to empower people through capacity building and provision of tools to enable productivity, social and economic development and conservation of the environment.
MFI’s main areas of operation are in the impact areas of the Malampaya Deepwater Gas to Power project, namely, Northwest and North Palawan islands, Oriental Mindoro and Batangas City.
MISSION AND VISION
To promote, foster and encourage sustainable social, environmental and economic development of communities in areas where we operate
The model and leading foundation in the upstream energy sector enabling socio-economic development of communities and environmental protection in areas where we operate.
OUR CORE VALUES
INTEGRITY. We believe that operating with integrity is essential to earn a place in communities that we help. Together with our partners in serving communities, we work to attain sustainable development goals wholeheartedly and connect with our stakeholders with honesty at all times.
RESPECT. We have high regard for the culture, inherent values and rights of people and protection of the environment, hence we ensure our programs do not compromise these. We strive to be a respected member of the community in order to build trust and lasting relationships essential for successful development.
EQUALITY. We believe that sustainable development is being fair and giving equal importance to all. We strive to empower and provide equal opportunity regardless of gender, race, religion, physical ability or socio-economic condition, so long as the needed qualifications and commitments are met.
SAFETY. We are committed to implement our programs in a safe manner and strive to transfer this practice to our beneficiaries and communities wherein we work. We regard safety as a tool that is integral to our operations--work is not carried out unless we are assured of safety.
HUMILITY. We believe that no one has monopoly over good ideas or best practices. As we work with people and communities, we are taught many valuable things: that communities possess a wealth of wisdom and yet they are in dire need. The knowledge and desire to overcome poverty is inherent, hence the need for us to lead and yet follow.
