Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) has renewed 13 conservation agreements with partner coastal communities across Oriental Mindoro, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to community-based marine and coastal resource conservation.

The renewed agreements cover conservation sites located in the municipalities of Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, Baco, Pola, Gloria, and Bulalacao. Most of these partnerships were established in 2013 and have since played a vital role in advancing local conservation initiatives, strengthening marine protected area management, and promoting community stewardship of coastal resources.

Over more than a decade of collaboration, these conservation partnerships have achieved significant milestones and gained national recognition for their contributions to marine biodiversity protection and sustainable resource management.

Among the notable accomplishments are two national championship awards under the Para El Mar Awards program, earned by Barangay Agsalin in 2017 and Barangay Ranzo in 2025. In the same year, Barangay Ilag received a Special Citation for Best Marine Protected Area (MPA) Enforcement, recognizing its exemplary efforts in safeguarding coastal ecosystems. In addition, four other partner sites have been recognized as national finalists in recent years, highlighting the collective impact of community-led conservation efforts across the province.

The renewal of these agreements underscores MFI’s continuing partnership with coastal communities that have demonstrated dedication and leadership in protecting their marine and coastal environments. Through sustained collaboration, capacity building, and local participation, these partnerships continue to contribute to the long-term conservation and sustainable management of Oriental Mindoro’s rich coastal and marine resources.
