Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) signed an agreement with Friends of Tubbataha (FOT), a foundation established to support fund-raising for the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, among the country’s UNESCO World Heritage site, located in east Palawan.

The support will be utilized for capacity-building of the Tubbataha’s park rangers, logistics, develop information-education materials and upkeep of the area’s deteriorating enforcement outpost.  Fund was provided by UC38 LLC, one of Malampaya’s joint venture companies.

Inscribed in 1993 as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the park covers 96,828 hectares and has faced numerous challenges in management and protection such as local and foreign poachers, severe weather and distance to mainland Palawan.

Hailed among the world’s top diving destinations, Tubbataha is located in the Sulu-Sulawesi priority Seascape, the richest in marine biodiversity within the Coral Triangle.
