On March 24, 2026, we officially turned over a solar-powered water system to our long-time conservation partner, the coastal community of Barangay San Andres in Baco, Oriental Mindoro.

The project provides more than 40 households with improved access to a sustainable and reliable water source through the installation of a solar-powered water pump. By harnessing renewable energy, the system helps address the community’s water needs while promoting environmentally responsible development.

Barangay San Andres has long demonstrated its commitment to marine conservation and coastal resource management. In recognition of these efforts, the community was awarded 1st Place Best Bantay Dagat during Oriental Mindoro’s STAR Awards for Marine Protected Areas in 2021.

Our partnership with the community began in 2013 and has since yielded significant conservation gains. Through sustained protection and management efforts, coral cover within their marine protected area increased from 15% in 2017 to 42% in 2025. The community has also recorded an increase in fish biomass and the return of key marine species following the establishment of their 152-hectare Marine Protected Area (MPA) in 2015.

The turnover of the solar-powered water system reflects our continuing commitment to supporting communities that actively safeguard coastal and marine ecosystems. By investing in sustainable livelihood and community development initiatives, we aim to strengthen local conservation efforts while improving the quality of life of the people who serve as stewards of these vital natural resources.
