Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - The Provincial Agriculture Office of Oriental Mindoro and Malampaya Foundation Inc. teamed up to engage and educate the youth sector to be coastal environment stewards in an environmental youth camp meant to educate about the rich but fast-deteriorating coastal and marine ecosystem of the country.
The participants, mostly out-of-school youths, were selected from the different coastal municipalities of east Mindoro who will be part of the various marine protected areas councils of the province's established and future marine sanctuaries located within and outside of the Verde Island Passage corridor.
More than learning the science of the ecosystem and various habitats, the youth are educated about sustainable resource use, management, protection and conservation methods to ensure proper regeneration of the critical and fragile resources.
