Puerto Princesa, Palawan — Park rangers of the Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape (MSPLS) were awarded support for their patrolling duties yesterday, December 11, 2018, at the annual Paskuhan sa Palawan celebration of the Malampaya joint venture partners.

MSPLS rangers were provided trekking gears, lights, mountaineering boots, binoculars, first aid kit and other tools useful for patrolling and enforcement of the park’s massive area. MFI chairman Rufino Bomasang, MFI President Belinda Racela, MFI Vice President Rolando Paulino and MFI Executive Director Karen Agabin turned over the assets to MSPLS park superintendent Alex Mancio.

Outer MSPLS is a priority conservation site of the Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) which has signed four conservation agreements (CA) with four (4) barangays in the area from 2013 onwards. Signatories to the CA are community organizations, barangay and municipal local governments, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Protected Area Office and MFI.

The program has since launched (in 2015) a 8,000-hectare management zone in the outer MSPLS, along with mobilization of communities for various conservation actions including terrestrial and marine rehabilitation, education drives, clean-ups, enforcement support and marine protected area management.
