When El Nido was hit directly by Typhoon Tino on November 5, the municipality bore the brunt of the storm’s destructive path. Strong winds and heavy rains left widespread damage not only in El Nido but also in nearby municipalities, including Linapacan and Taytay.
In response to the urgent needs of affected communities, Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) mobilized to support relief efforts in the three affected municipalities starting November 19. Food assistance—including sacks of rice and canned meat products—was distributed to the municipal local government units (LGUs) and selected partner barangays across the three municipalities. The effort aims to provide immediate support to families as they recover from the storm’s impact and work to restore their homes and livelihoods.
Local governments and community partners have been closely coordinating to ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable households. The distribution marks the first phase of a broader recovery effort focused not only on emergency relief but also on long-term rehabilitation.
In the coming weeks, efforts will shift toward restoring damaged conservation program assets and select community facilities affected by the typhoon. These rehabilitation activities are vital to helping communities regain stability while safeguarding the environmental gains achieved through ongoing conservation initiatives.
