Five (5) of the nine (9) finalists in this year’s Para El Mar Awards – Locally-Managed Marine Protected Area Category are conservation partner sites that we have supported since 2013.

Among the distinguished finalists is the Bulalacao Marine Protected Area (Coron), recognized for its steadfast commitment to protecting critical marine habitats in northern Palawan. Also named is the Ranzo Fish Sanctuary (Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro), which notably placed second at the 2023 Para El Mar Awards, demonstrating sustained excellence in community-based marine conservation.

The St. John the Baptist Fish Sanctuary (Pola, Oriental Mindoro) likewise stands among this year’s finalists, reflecting the strength of local governance and stakeholder engagement in resource protection. Joining them is the Punta Ilag Fish Sanctuary (San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro), nationally recognized for its effective locally managed conservation efforts. Completing the list is the Pulong Bato Marine Protected Area, on Isla Verde, Batangas City.

These recognitions affirm the impact of long-term partnerships, strong local leadership, and science-based conservation strategies in advancing sustainable coastal resource management.
