Taytay, Palawan — Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) signed a conservation covenant with Bgy Banbanan-based community organisation Samanahan Pangkaunlaran ng Banbanan (SAPAKABA), Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape Protected Area Office (MSPLS-PAO) and the bgy local government to progress a community-based marine conservation program on the western side of the outer Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape.

The conservation program involves improving management of strict protection zones, upgrading of community enforcement capacities, regular resource monitoring, implementation of income-diversification projects, coral rehabilitation, marine and terrestrial reforestation, information campaigns and community mobilisation.

The covenant was signed by SAPAKABA President Edwin Villanueva, MSPLS Protected Area Superintendent Alexander Mancio, Banbanan Bgy Chairman Delia Signo and MFI Executive Director Karen Agabin on February 26, 2016 at the Banbanan bgy hall, Taytay, Palawan.
