El Nido, Palawan- Conservation partner communities barangays Teneguiban and San Fernando renewed conservation agreements (CA’s) with Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) yesterday at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Protected Area Office (DENR-PAO) in El Nido, Palawan.

The signing is the 3rd since the original agreement was inked in 2016.  Barangays Teneguiban and San Fernando have since expanded their respective marine protected areas (MPAs) from 10 to 1,445 hectares (Teneguiban) and 10 to 1,740 hectares (San Fernando).  Increased community participation in MPA management and enforcement has resulted in increased indicator fish abundance and recovering hard coral cover.

Signatories of the CA’s were the El Nido municipal local government, DENR-PAO, barangay LGUs of Teneguiban and San Fernando, MFI and officers of the communities’ people’s organizations.
