Active community bantay dagats (volunteer sea rangers) in conservation-partner sites of Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) in north Palawan, Oriental Mindoro and Batangas city received their rice sacks as part of their incentives in playing a key role in protecting marine protected areas (MPAs)/marine management zones of their communities.
Provision of 100-kg rice each per year by MFI is among the conservation incentives for active bantay dagats which also includes insurance, alternative livelihood support and vocational scholarships/trainings for their families.
A number of MFI’s conservation-partner sites have been ranked among the best locally-managed MPAs in the Philippines by Para el Mar since 2012.
