Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) provided materials for marine protected areas (MPAs) in vulnerable locations to serve as buffer to the oil spill on the waters off Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

Absorbent booms, ropes, containers, nets and cement were among those released to conservation-partner communities of MFI in the municipalities of Pola, Pinamalayan and Baco which have expressed concern about potential impacts of the oil spill on their coasts.  Members of the communities and bantay dagats worked round the clock to fabricate and deploy the make-shift booms and oil absorbent booms.

The sunken vessel carrying industrial oil from a San Miguel facility in Limay, Bataan sank within the municipal waters of Naujan and has been spilling its contents since  February 28, 2023.
