Taytay, Palawan—Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) formally turned over and inaugurated  yesterday, June 13, 2022, the completed ranger station located in the outer Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape (MSPLS) to the Protected Area Office (PAO)-Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

MFI and PAO-DENR in Taytay, Palawan have been partners in enhancing marine conservation and coastal resource management efforts in the outer MSPLS since 2013.  The ranger station was built as shelter and base for park rangers and completed through active counter-parting between the partners including the local communities and barangay to enhance enforcement in the protected area which has been faced with challenges which include illegal logging and fishing.

Other support being provided by MFI to the park rangers are capacity-building, insurance, food support, tools and equipment.  MFI also provides continuous technical and logistical support for the mapping, zonation, management planning, as well as social community mobilization, alternative livelihoods and IECs for communities in the outer sound.

MFI Chairman Rufino B. Bomasang and DENR Taytay-El Nido CENRO Allan Valle were present to lead the turn-over ceremony.
